1st…I wonder if my wife would let me look for a girlfriend that would act the same.

2nd…nice bow!

3rd…awesome dog, best friend has one and she is a blast on the pheasants.  We were in the UP of Michigan this October for Partridge and woodcock and it was a blast.

4th…I agree with the starting close…I have a bow in the build process for my best friend and it should be done soon.  I read a book when I stated shooting traditional in 2007 that suggested starting out close like 5 yards and shooting until you could hit the bull every time.  Then step back 2 yards and repeat the process.  I did this until I could shoot that way out to about 15-18 yards.  I'm not always in the bull but very close.  The more I shot the more I would start at longer ranges but if my groups were off I'd walk up to 5 yards (sometime closer) and hit the bull over and over.  I think it makes me concentrate more and when I stepped back after doing this I was spot on. I was a beginners guide by Brian J. Sorrells and it was a great buy in my opinion.  I’m going to give it to him to read with the bow.

But since you have been shooting before I'm probably just wasting space on the site...just wanted to chime in.

You said you could keep all your arrows in the vitals at 20yards, that would be considered "world class" by competition shooters. Go Hunting! Love that Shorthair.

Good luck, if you dont see any deer that nice looking shorthair pointer will fill the gap I am sure of that. I had one for 14 years good shooting partner, I miss her she is gone a year in Feb.   :archer:

Not a waste of space at all. I ahve been shooting recurves and longbows for 3 years. i have taken a few deer and hogs as well as smaller critters. I also shoot wheels and tend to spend more time with that during the regular deer season. It's always the late season i end up hunting with my trad gear. I'll shoot everyday for a few months and get really good then i end up putting it down for a bit and have to work back up to sooting great again. I do a lot of close shooting and blank baleing with my eyes close to work on form and release. That really helps a lot!

I thought that was a shrew!!!
I need to get a hold of Ron!!!!
Skip like you, I would pick up the stick and shoot it till I got good then pick up the wheels and go deer hunting. I finally made the decision to go strictly trad and sold the wheels.
Best of luck

The main reason was I had some properties I needed to thin deer out on.....or not be asked back and I took part is a Control hunt for the town. Every opportunity had to be capitilized on. That means 40 and 50+ yd shots. So i Hunted with the compound. Next year I will not do the cull hunt and the landowners are now happy, so It should be different. Late season is always all mine though!
