Wild pigs

Were would be the closest place to New York that you can hunt free ranging wild or feral pigs legally and have good odds at getting one or more. I have never hunted them and would love to give it a try, they look delicious i might add.

Closest to you would be the Carolinas I would think...or are you closer to Tenneesee?

well now that i think about it i have only seen an add in bowhunter about hunting there I just checked up on it and it is a ranch so my Bad.


One of the ones that has a 100% success rate.

I know somebody that hunted the PA ranch ,don't remeber the name of the place.I'll hafta ask but I think he said it was a giant fenced in area and while it may take ya awhile to find pigs odds of getting a shot will be high.Don't recall him sayin anything about ever going back but again I can double check later

We had some "free range" escaped pigs that nobody wanted or seemed to know who they belonged to.Caught a couple that proceeded to escape again and after a few weeks and lots of ruttin damage they started gettin picked off.That's my one and only pig and I took it with my bow outta the back yard.They mainly stayed way out back but they came a little close when I was out there LOL

There are some "ranches" in PA, but I don't know about free ranging. I know that pigs are not considered game animals in PA and can be shot any time. Actually you are encouraged to shoot them since they are considered invasive species. I know if I ever see one in the wild and I have my bow, I'm going for it.

I have heard rumors there are some on the NY/PA border.....delaware county. I will try to find out more for ya Stoneknife. A buddy of mine goes to Stoney Fork "preserve" in PA with great success...

take a stroll down to Alabama. specially down in the Deep South,  below Montgomery, just draw a straight line across the state dividing it into North and South and most hogs'll be in the southern regions. there are a few in North Alabama. close to Tuscaloosa (Okmulugee Magagement Area) during any open seasons you can hunt hogs with bow, since you can hunt squirrels with a bow you can start hunting Oct. 1- Feb. 28 (small game and deer[Oct 15- Jan 31])  and Mar. 15- apr. 30.(turkey season).  

try it sometime, make a trip in early Feb next year when its coldest ans stick em good...

There is a quota hunt in Oct in Va Beach, but other than that you are looking at the carolinas I think

I don't know were out East, but don't go hunt them hog, you will be utterly addicted to hog hunting the rest of your life, and even worse, is they taste a heck of a lot better than store bought pigs. ( yea I am going through hog hunting withdrawls not being able to do it for three + years)

well i know what we think about high fences but on the other hand......??????  A couple of friends of mine and I went to hunt pigs.  It turned out to be a 280 acer high fenced area.  hmmmm, didn't like that too much.  

Well we spent four days hunting the 280 acers since we were already there.  Hey it turned out to be the most fun.  You were in a stalk from sun up to sun down.  After hunting hard for 3 days we each shot one pig, even though we had right to shoot more.  Hey these pigs ain't dumb.  they can bust ya every bit as well as a white tail.

the biggest difference (IMO) was that ya did not spend hours in a stand, or hours wait over a corn pile, or hours glass for pig to stalk at all, you spent you time in s stalk tring to get within range of some very wise pigs.  It was a challange the tought me several lessons and I been hunt for a long time.

I had rather hunt a high fence spot and stalk then I had over a bait or in a stand over a trail.

just my thoughts on the situation.

South West PA.
As far as I know.They have been moving into the state,for sometime now,from WV and VA.
