Groscup/Addington Arrows Auctioned off by WVBHA at Banquet
« on: January 16, 2009, 11:52:00 AM »
March 13-15, 2009 the West Virginia Bowhunters Association will host their annual Banquet at the Days Motel in Flatwoods, WV. The guest speaker will be Barry Wensel.

President Ed McMinn had approached me about a special auction package and together with the Groscup family we have put together a pretty cool package. There will be one of the late Rev. Stacy Groscup's arrows on a display board with engraved nameplate and two 8x10 photos from the family's collection of Stacy. The flu-flu is well used and is a beautiful tribute to a great man. It is a special collection.

Since I am Stacy's protege', I have donated one of my stage arrows. In my 24 years on stage, I have signed and numbered less than 30 arrows. This is #15. I'll add a personalized publicity photo to the package too.

We are also looking for a photo of Stacy and I together for the package.

Stacy was the 49th inductee into the Archery Hall of Fame and was the first archer to ever hit seven aspirin from mid air in a row without a miss. A feat that has never been matched. If you want to read more about Stacy, visit the tribute site at:
 http://stacylgroscup.memory-of.com/About.aspx

This is the first and only time a package like this has been sold. If you are an arrow collector you may want to contact the WVBHA about this package.
You can call (304)746-0750 for more information or (304)449-1732 to obtain tickets to the banquet.

Thanks -- this money will go to the West Virginia Bowhunter's Association. Stacy was the master.... and put me on stage for the first time 24 years ago.

Shoot Straight,
Frank Addington, Jr

I copied and pasted this from another Trad Forum.  There's is some great info in the post and a great opportunity to participate in an auction for some arrows from two of the great trick shot artists of our time.

Stacy was a fine man and a PHENOMENAL SHOT!!!!  Frank Jr or Franky, as I was more used to calling him back when I used to be one of his dad's customers as a teenager, is the real deal and a great promoter of our sport and motivator for the youth of today.

Every time I read Stacy's name, my mind goes back to that day at the West Virginia Hunting and Fishing Expo in about 1991 or 1992 when I watched him perform with Franky as his assistant.  I am 99% sure the pictures of Stacy performing in the TBM Issue after his passing are from that show.  I was shooting a mechanical contraption at the time and ordered another one from my favorite bowyer of that sort at the time (Dave Powers) at the show, but the seed was planted that day for a "REAL" bow!

This is an excellent opportunity to own a piece of our history and to support a wonderful organization.

I wish I would have had the opportunity to know Mr. Groscup on a personal level.

If any of you did, this would be a fine place to put up some memories for us to enjoy.
Gen 27:3  "Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;"

Brian,

I, too, wish I would have had the opportunity to have met Mr. Groscup or to have seen him shoot in person.  I've only had that privilege through the medium of videos.  But he certainly was a great shot and obviously a great teacher as Frank has gone on to replace his mentor in the shooting demonstration and entertainment world.

I would encourage everyone to look at the website at the link in the initial post.  Look at the various tabs at the top and read some of the comments people have made regarding a wonderful man and the  influence he had on their lives.
