got a pretty good boar on the ground. i had 9 shooter hogs--from 50-200lbs.--and one about 35lbs and a buuuunchhh of pigs about 4" tall come in today and i shot the big boar of the bunch. i felt myself "short-draw" when i shot, but still made a good quartering shot. with not much penetration--again. at the shot he ran, then stopped and walked off to the edge of a slough where i lost sight. i had a second shot at a small boar, but the lower limb hit something when i shot and missed him.
i shot him with the samw bow i have had with the gt 55/75's and the woodsman heads with adapters--first try at them. they did ok, think i may get the sharks back out. i just like the size difference between them.
we started trailing him right before dark with not much blood, but head a splash in the slough and it was him. he fell in the slough and was in about 16" of water. he did not make it very far after the shot. with the warm weather we had today, dragging a wet hog was just what i wanted to day!
this is my best hog with the longbow yet.
my dad also saw 3 big boars bigger than mine today as well, but was hunting in a tripod and had a hard time with the longbow in it and shot high, just barely hitting the top of one's back. we are having a good start to 09 with plenty of shot opportunities. i just hope the rest of the year plays out similar to the first month!
pics will come tomorrow morning--after i thaw out first
