Tuskers...right bevel???
« on: January 17, 2009, 11:24:00 AM »
I'm looking for info on whether or not you can get Tusker heads with a right bevel or not? I'm hoping to find a 200gr. head, single bevel, and close to 3:1 ratio. Tuskers seem to be well built and the price is right. Thanks....Ryan

Hi Ryan,

The Tuskers are quickly becoming favorites of mine.  They are not available in a right single bevel at this time.

Are you wanting glue on heads?  The Tusker Concorde 190 is double bevel.  Since they are not laminated in the cutting area they are very receptive to converting to single bevel with a file.  Does take a little elbow grease though.

The Grizzly remains an excellent and affordable option if you like right single bevel heads.

I got some custom-ground from unsharpened blanks from Ron "Sharpster" Swartz at KME. Sharp as fear and shoot great. Only problem is that the blades are so thin, you don't get much bevel width with a single-bevel. Thicker the blade, the more effective a single-bevel is. I sure like the lower Tusker prices, though.

Which Tusker were you using Dave?  The big 190 Tusker at .060 is thicker than some of the Grizzlies.  Many of the Tuskers are .035, certainly not as much to work with although I've put some decent single bevels on a few Aztecs which are .035.
