Bill,

I got my pullover and vest lined & insulated because of the colder temperatures here in Michigan.  My pants are unlined.  I have been very happy with them.  This December I put a pair of Ulfrotte' heavy longjohns under this setup and spent an entire morning out at -35 wind chills. I have since bought a set of lined and insulated bibs so I am set for brutal cold if I get back to Saskatchewan.

I would recommend getting at least the pullover or a vest with both and you can limit the bulk underneath.

Thanks Dave. Does the insulation add a lot of bulk?  BILL

I would recommend the insulation in the bibs and vest, but not the jacket, which will minimize bulk when drawing and let you use the jacket over a wider range of temps, and you still have the insulated bibs and vest to wear under it for more frigid conditions.

I should have clarifed, I would still get the wind barrier in the jacket, but not insulation.

Dave, How do you find getting that lined pull over on and off? That lining stuck to everything that I put on under the pull over. Getting in and out of it was a major operation. I sent it back and got the lined jacket. If I was to get the pull over again it would be unlined and I'd wear my lined vest with it. Good wool stuff though.

I know a guy that had a fleece lined and insulated pullover and it was a gas watching him get it off. I have a berber cabelas pullover with the old Windstopper and it is pretty easy but it is pretty big.  BILL

I have never had an issue getting mine on or off.  Did they unzip it all the way?  I do use wool longjohns too, but that shouldn't be the issue.  Was your lining brown?

The lining is light brown but it really stuck to anything under it. Not sure what you mean by unzip all the way. A pull over is just that...you pull it over your head like a sweatshirt. It doesn't unzip all the way..the jacket which I exchanged it for does, however. I want to make it clear, that I am in no way bashing this product. It's great stuff, I just had difficulty putting it on and off...course then I'm not as agile as I used to be. That might be part of the problem.

Britt,

My pullover unzips to the bottom of my sternum so I didn't see much of a problem, but I understand what you are saying about flexibility.  My shoulders are about shot from baseball, racquetball and shooting heavy bows in my younger days.

Dave, do you find yourself using the pullover or vest more? If you could have just one... ??  BILL

I got the lined vest and unlined pullover to layer for colder days. It's been a pretty nice combination, but I'm not sure I'd do the pullover again. I wear my harness under the vest so when I'm in a tree and want to take thepulover on or off, I have to unhook my safety strap. Pain in the next to get off when you movement is limited. I LOVED the vest. Apparently someone else did too because it was stolen by someone from my truck. Probably a homeless person as they snagged a nice raincoat too.
I have the unlined pants and worn with long johns on the colder days I haven't been cold yet. If I were hunting serious cold however, I think a lined insulated pair would be in order. Maryland just doesn't warrant the insulation though.

One of my favorite features of the vest is the pockets. Very well thought out and easy to access. I'll be replacing the one I had stolen and will probably get a jacket down the line. I recommend the low collar on the vest if you intend to layer it under another garment.

Bill,

I use my pullover more becasue I had Gary size my vest to wear over the pullover.  I believe he typically sizes them in the reverse.  I only use my vest when it gets very cold.

Personally I would go with the full zip parka and stay away from the pullover as the pullover is a pain to layer with-especially if you're already in the tree and want to keep your safety harness on while chamging clothes.
