birch vs maple actionwood
« on: January 21, 2009, 12:12:00 AM »
I'd like to hear from some bowyers about the difference between these two materials.  I've read about birch actionwood being less desirable than maple actionwood, but never seen any reasons why.  Thanks...Mike

Well actually, it nearly ceases being wood after it is injected with the hot plastics, so I really suspect there is little if any difference.
Both can make excellent riser woods in their natural state.

I'm with George.
Now then, get your weapons ~ your quiver and bow ~ and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27.3

unless it changed, actionwood is not "injected" but simply laminated like plywood and cut across the laminations.  Dymondwood is similar but "injected".

Yep, I was asking only about the non-impregnated actionwood.  Dymondwood is a whole other creature...Mike

I have used both for risers and can not tell any difference.I have not used either for limb lams so can't say about limbs.  Bob

My guess maple might be better in limbs. You might need a chrono to see it.
