Bow blow out (pics and Question added)
« on: January 24, 2009, 12:06:00 AM »
Last weekend I bought a beautiful take down recurve. I ordered a new string and sat on pins until it arrived. String got here yesterday and I put in some silencers and shot two rounds to strech it out. This morning I checked the brace hieght and procceded to adjust it, when I was restringing this beautiful bow it SNAPPED right down the middle of the handle.  At first I was p****ed but after a while I realized this gives me a chance to try my hand at making a new riser and I think osage will be on order. I will  try to put pics in the morning. Thanks I had to vent!

If I make a new handle out of osage can I make the handle taller or shorter to acheive a different bow length?

Are you sure that repairing the handle isn't an option?

Try Bowdoc here on tradgang and he'll fix it for you, properly. I had my very first bow, a Bob Lee takedown blow up on me the very first day I had it (last xmas day). Split that riser right down the middle when it fell from my hand after a shot down onto asphalt. Bowdoc generously offered to fix it. I opted for a new one from Bob Lee at cost, received it in the mail and sold the whole setup to fund my very first Widow!

I think I would contact the bowyer first. It could be a design flaw. What other woods are in the riser?

Kenny, the bow was a Korean made target bow about 15 years old, don't think I will have any luck there. There seems to be nine diferent laminations but I'm not sure of woods used.
