Best deal on a new Double Bull Recurve blind?
« on: January 25, 2009, 03:42:00 PM »
Well, I decided to go all out and get a new Double Bull hunting blind.  I want the Recurve model, which is 74" tall, in either the Dark Horse or the Matrix.

I'm trying to find the best price possible, so I would really appreciate any tips or leads of good places to shop.

I've looked at **** and google, but didn't see much.

Thanks in advance for any help, Paul

Hey wingnut, thanks for the response!

I searched the classifieds, but didn't see any for sale right now.  I'm thinking I'll probably buy a new one though.

Since I started this thread though, I found some things on the internet where people are complaining about problems with the new ones made overseas.

I just wonder if the quality is the same now that DB was bought out by another company.

I just recently got a new DB for my anniversary.  I say recently but it was in September before hunting season.  I took it out the second weekend of bow season here in Indiana... Oct 1 is the opener.  Went to set it up for the first time (I have set plenty of DB's up but this particular one was my first)  And one of the pols broke right at the hub.  I have heard of them doing this pre-Primos, but everyone I talked to said it took a few months to have any problems some havent had that problem yet.  I called primos from camp and told them what happened.  They sent me five new rods for the blind.  Unfortunately they come full length, so you have to measure them with the broken one and then cut them with a hacksaw or bandsaw.  Then replace them.  I am an expert now at replacing them as I have had to replace four of the things already.  Another kicker in my opinion is the new poles come in a slate grey color.  I thought the whole idea behind DB was to be dressed in black.  Now the poles are white inside the blind.  A little spray paint fixed it, but for 400 bones you would expect a little more.  I will say this... the customer service was amazing and working with the primos guys was nothing more than giving my name and address and boom I had replacement parts by wednesdsay of the same week.

I have never had a rod or anything break on my 360, I have had it for 3 years and it has been set up many times. I am real cautious when I pop out the hubs, you can tell when something is not right by how much pressure it takes to pop the hub in.

I think all the Primos are China specials. The older one's have cream colored rods and metal hubs. Look around you sporting good stores Cabelas, Bass Pro etc. I was with a friend when I noticed that Cabelas had a older recurve as a floor model. Well all they had were Primos Dark Horses in stock. He got the recurve floor model for the price of a standard Matrix -10% for it being a floor model. Check around you might get lucky.

I have an older model and love it. Never had a problems of problems with them. . I have a couple friends who have the newer ones since DB sold. Both have had to fix them on numerous occasions. I have heard good things about some of the other blinds out now. I would do a little more research on what else is available.

Good luck

I purchased my blind from the warehouse in MN.  Brooks and the guys were there.  They sold me a demo model out of the back that they had used at trade shows.

Give them a call.

Yeah, I'm thinking that maybe the competition is starting to catch up with DB.

And it's starting to sound like DB is having Quality Control issues since they began manufacturing in China.

For $500.00, it should be problem free!
