Horne Combo hunter longbow

Those that have one of these, could ya post some performance numbers.  I am between this, another Whip, ACS, and Morrison Shawnee.  I would like it at around 59@28 and either 62 or 64 inch.  My goal is to shoot at least 600 gr arrow at 170fps.  I do love the grip on my Horne and would love to buy another bow from Mike.

Dan you shot that Horne mtn bow really well this weekend at the tripple crown, you should stick with that puppy.

Thanks Jack, but since I got the Whip, I kind of have a bit of longbow bug.  I just want one thats a little heavier than my Whip.  Heck, I figure you would be trying to talk me into one.  Ya know you would love to play with it at the next shoot.

You won't have any problems getting 170 fps with the Combohunter at that weight. Especially if you get the bamboo limbs. I've had some high performing longbows, ACS/Centaur, that were very nice but rather twitchy in terms of shootability for me. The Horne Combo is a great combination of speed and shootability..

I have a Horne's Traditionalist which is the same bow your thinking about in a one piece. I have owned and shot alot of bows.Easy to shoot,fast, no hand shock, and QUIET!!!!. It's a 2 shot bow. A bow so quiet you can get another shot at a deer if you had to. My bow has maple cores and it's plenty fast. Faster than alot of bows I owned with boo that were much more money.

Thanks for the info.  I love my horne and I am really torn from getting the combo hunter or another whip.  My only compliant about the whip is that I wish it had a little more mass in the riser.  Those super light one piece bows are harder for me to shoot.  I think I will just have to give Mike a call and talk to him about it.  When I ordered my Mountain bow, he talked me out of the carbon core and into the boo core saying that it really only made a difference in the long bows.  He is probably the best judge of what his bows will do so should have just called him.  Besides, he is a great guy to chat with.

Excellent Choice ,, I had one , was a little light & my draw but excellent feel & shootability ,, Still have my Traditionalist from Mark ,, "LOVE IT" !!

When it gets daylight I'll whip out the chrono and run some numbers.  I have one that is 64" #53 @ 28 and I draw 29.5 so that would get numbers close to the poundage you want.  I don't think you will be dissapointed in a Horne's combo hunter.  I am an admitted bowaholic and on the road to recovery since I got mine.  I still like to trade around but right now the Hornes is my go to bow.

Dan, I think the cores are bamboo but I bought it used in the classifieds so I'm not 100%.

The unscientific results of the chrony:
Three arrows of each type weight averaged. All arrows weighted within 4gr. of each other for each type.

Woodies 580gr.
string 1: 166.0, 167.3, 166.9
string 2: 168.8, 170.4, 169.4

2018 560gr.
string 1: 169.2, 168.2, 167.2
string 2: 170.8, 170.2, 170.5

2020 598gr.
string 1: 166.1, 167.5, 169.3
string 2: 169.8, 169.4, 168.9

Hope that helps.  It may not be the fastest bow out there but for me it fits just like an extension of my arm and besides I would rather have a slower quieter arrow than a louder fast one.

I'm not sure whether it's the carbon reverse tapers or just my extra drawlength that made the difference, but I know Mark swears the carbon really improves the cast over standard bamboo cores. All's I know is that my own bow really smokes an arrow!  :D
