Reshape a grip with Bondo?

I was hinking os using bondo on a grip to add some palm swell.  Has anyone done this before?  Can anyone sugest a beter product?

Bondo works well.  Easy to use, easy to work, stays stuck to the riser, etc.  Only drawback is it's ugly to look at.  Covered with a leather grip, noone will know it's there but you.

One of my "go to" bows is a bondo job.  As Jerry said,  a little leather and  voila !  I might suggest building up the bondo in layers and not one "BAC",  you know     big ....chunk.

wrap the newly Bondo'd area with Saran wrap and you can hand shape that as well.

I used jb weld to sculpt my 2 piece td longbow grip & it worked good. Added a lot of weight which I wanted & it`s bullet proof. Sand, file grind on it. It took a few layers.

rather than bondo which sets up fast, use one of the epoxy puttys(marine,plumbers etc.....),it molds like modling clay,sets up rock hard and easy to clean up off your hands...........

I agree with Jim and hvyhitter....the taxidermy/marine epoxy putty's are the way to go. By far a lot easier to work with than anything else mentioned. You can work it with you hand and not worry about it sticking to you fingers/hands. And you won't need anything harmful to clean yourself up

Two part taxidermy epoxy is what I used on my Great Northern Ghost to add a palm swell. Worked perfect. I first wrapped the riser in duct tape so I wouldn't have to put the epoxy directly on the riser, and it gave the epoxy something to stick to. Then I wrapped the grip in leather and it all turned out pretty well. Maybe doesn't look as good as a factory job, but doesn't look like a hack job either.

You could look online at Rhinehart's or Mackenzie's. I'll be stopping by Dad's taxidermy shop in a bit. I'll check and see where he gets his.

You can order the epoxy on line at any of the taxidermy suppliers or your local taxidermist may spot you some.There may be something similar at the hardware store but often the quantities are small and in the long run,it is more expensive.A lot of it is bone colored but a few brands come in black,brown and other colors.Some brands are:Sculp Epox,Magic Sculp,All Game etc.Once you get some,you will find a lot of other uses for it.It can be sculpted,molded,sanded,ground etc..You can even make silicone texture molds and press these into the epoxy after it firms up a little.this way you can make a leather texture,antler or whatever.Taxidermist use it for a thousand things.Rebuilding antlers is just one.

Lowes or Home Deperate has epoxy putty, usually in the paint section, and you can usually get the marine grasde at Wall mart or any boating store.
