wood stain crested arrows (pics)
« on: February 02, 2009, 08:39:00 PM »
I wanted to do something a little different with some arrows. I have a couple of nice new "primitive" bows and wanted some arrows to go with them. I had never seen arrows crested with wood stain and thought I would give it a try. They were all crested the same way, but the wood took the stains different. I really like the way they came out. 4 different colors of stains. I used Minwax this time which is very thin. Its what I had around the house. The next batch I do  I think I will use some of the thicker stains. Whatcha think?

I like to stain the point end and leave the "crown" just unstained. Then finish and crest. Makes a sort of crown with just lighter wood grain.  Basically the opposite effect as yours. Mine don't look that good yet though.
