Kzoo Shrew Review ??

OK, who shot the carbon limb Shrew at Kalamazoo and what did you think? Noise? Smooth? Speed? Beauty? I still have a couple months to make decisions on my order and need input.

I shot the 52" Classic Hunter with foam core and carbon limbs.

Having just picked up my 54" Classic Hunter to match my first Super Shrew (making a 3rd father/son set), I found it hard not to get back on the list for one with foam and carbon. May do so if I can justify to myself--LOL.

I shot 4 x 3 arrows at the test area (maybe 10 yds)with it. Was worried about busting Gregg's arrows ;o) The difference between the foam/carbon was subtle, but noticeable. Beauty? That's in the eye of the owner, but Gregg makes a very very nice bow.

I've been finding that I like the shorter Shrews for hunting. They shoot well and it is amazing the difference a couple of inches in bow length is when still hunting denser areas.

Geeze, Kad, I just typed this and then somehow erased rather than sent. For what it's worth> I spent much of my time at Kzoo at the Shrew booth, but was so absolutely absorbed in shooting and admiring my new Shrew Classic Hunter, that it never occurred to me to try other bows. Dumb, eh?    Sure wish I'd tried the foamy just to see what all the buzz is about. Not to speak for Gregg, but it seems he has full confidence in foam. You can always live dangerous and "Be the first on your block to try it!" Dave

I would trust anyting Greg says. Mine will be foam now I think.

I have more reservations about the additional "technology" in a trad bow than its performance.  It is a mental thing but it is there.  Plus those vaneered limbs sure are pretty.  I just thought some rave reviews might push me over the edge.  I still have a few months to think about it.

The carbon foam Shrew was awesome!! I shot one that was #49@28 and it really threw an arrow. My friend and I were laughing because it nearly weighed the same as two 600 grain arrows that Gregg let us use. Sure would make a great bow for someone who does a lot of still hunting.

Not to disagree with anyone here since I was not at Kalamazoo, but I think the only carbon/foam Shrew there was a 56" Super Shrew right-hand, 49#@28". It is the bow Arwin is talking about. There was also a 56" carbon/actionboo Classic Hunter right-hand, 51#@28", and of course my 56" foam core Classic Hunter, 52#@28". My bow was the one with macasser ebony veneers and Texas ebony and phenolic riser.

Arwin, glad you got that Sweet Grass. That's a really "sweet" bow!

I'm sure glad you like that Sweet Grass. I know Gregg was pleased that you liked it. He cares a lot for you and your family. I hear your daughter likes the bow Gregg built for her too. I don't think I'm likely to get my daughter to shoot a bow anymore. She did when she was about 5 to 7 years old, but then she "grew up" and wanted to do girly things like her friends.

At least my son and my wife both shoot, so that is some consolation to me. We are all shooting Shrews. In fact I just bought that 54" Classic Hunter Samurai takedown, right-hand, 46#@28", that Gregg and Ron had there at K'zoo, and I am going to give it to my son as his birthday present. He started shooting a one piece 54" CH of mine that is about 10 pounds heavier and it was his favorite bow he ever shot. I was going to give it to him, but he has been living overseas for 3 years with one more year to go, and he can't really haul around a one piece, so I got him the takedown instead. I am 6'1" and 185#, but he got his height from his mother and is only 5'9" and 150#. He can shoot my bow well, but it wears him out pretty quickly. Dropping down 10 pounds will make it more fun for him, and that is plenty of weight, even at his 26 1/2" draw where he will be shooting around 42-43#. He will only be using that bow for target and stump shooting and small game anyway, so a lighter draw weight is not a problem. Besides, that weight will kill elk and bear. He will be pumped to get the Samurai. It only has the bamboo limbs, but that is certainly not a bad thing. Not every bow needs to be able to wring out all the performance possible. Besides, all my son has to do is wait around until I get too old to shoot my bows and he will have all the trad bows in various weights that he could ever use.

My wife shoots a little Shrew Lite that was Gregg's 9th Shrew he ever built. It was built for Ray Lyon's son. It is a neat little bow and perfect for a woman or youth. Probably somewhat similar to your daughter's bow.

Shot a 52" Classic Hunter to see how it stacked up with my 58" Super Shrew Deluxe.  Couldn't tell much difference at all at my 27" draw.  Enough to help me decide that the next Shrew I order will be a 52" Classic Hunter.  Why carry around and extra 6"?:lol:  They all shoot good for me.  The grip just lends it's self to my style of shooting I guess.

I have a 52"  42lbs@26" Shrew Classic Hunter on order. Ordered it the last week of November. Going to be a long wait!
