Just saw this on the guide. tonight at 8:30. Not sure if it has any Trad content, but thought I'd give a heads up. Don

Sorry, no trad bows. Just Mathews Geni?. Still I thought a good way to keep kids on the range instead of screwing up doing something else. I Wish Bear(or any trad bow builder) was the tour da force today and could put enough support into this idea. Was Great to see the girl who's mother had cancer win the national jr championship with a pink bow. I kinda think any time you get young people interested in something other than setting on the couch pushing buttons, or out tearing up something, it's a good thing, trad or not.agree or disagree? DB

I run that program at my middle school.  The pure joy that my urban students get from shooting a bow is a wonder to behold.  I urge you to support this program any way that you can.

Don, my wife just shakes her head every time she reads that!!! LOL

About the only hunting tip I have is hunt where the good deer are...seriously. I hunted 1/2 my life where if we had a shot an ANY antlered buck we killed it and were happy about it.

Since I've moved here, deer hunting has a whole new meaning. I only hunt on about 100 acres, but it's a pretty good 100 acres, and I try to hunt it smart.

Hopefully we'll run into each other at ATAR.

I run archery each year with my class! Two little Black Rhinos and a Ragim Ranger in action, with me shooting either a Black Widow or Howard Hill. Actually, on a side track, when I finally got my Schafer Silvertip, such a big fuss had been made in the lead-up to it about my pending arrival, that one of my colleagues kidnapped the bow from the delivery man while I was teaching, and after a few false alarm deliveries of pretend bows, I finally had my bow delivered just as the lunch bell went and just when I was trying to deal justly with the perpetrator of some mild classroom offence!

I run an after school portion of the NASP program.  It would be great to have a variety of bows, but Mathews has been great in its support of the program, and starting with any bow is a way to hook young people for life.  The great thing about the genesis bows is they have a consistent weight at a variety of draw lengths so it helps level the field for beginners.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I was just looking into N.A.S.P. This is an exellent program for the kids as well as for the growth of archery. Does one need to be a teacher to run this program in a school or just a volunteer. I am going to check into it and see if there is any interest in the school districts around here. This is a great chance for Trad Gangers to get involved and "give back". We need to get the kids outdoors again.

Gregg, do you teach at the school or just run the program for the school?  I just graduated from college for physical education, and any school that I get into I would love to start an archery program.  Actually a few of the schools I'm applying to have programs already!

Bob,  I am actually the principal there.  Makes it easier to get approval.  ;)

Since we started the program at our school, it has expanded to about a dozen other schools in the district.  That only leaves 35 more to go!  My goal is for all 43,000 kids in the school district to participate in NASP.  We are gaining momentum.

My PE teachers run the program through their curriculum so 1125 students get to try it out. I shoot with the kids every Wednesday before school.  I usually have about 60-70 show up.

hey Don!  the Archery In Schools Program is a great thing. our club (Traditional Bowhunters of Southern West Virginia) has made donations to two different schools in our area in the past six months. I think every club or organization (that can afford it of course) should help in some way. they don't shoot trad but hey, at least they're in the program and not on the streets.

I am one of the NASP Coaches at our School. We have less than 600 kids Pre-School thru 12. Last year was our first year and our Elementary and Middle School Teams took the State Championship at the Iowa Deer Classic. We took them to Kentucky for the Nationals, even though they didn't place it was great for them to see so many other kids in the Country competing also. Even Gene Wensel took time to talk with some of our kids. This year we have 83 competing. The last pic was taken a couple weeks ago at the Cardinal Comets Shootout. These were the top 3 overall. Two of these kids shoot Traditional also. My Son on the left and the girl next to him.
