Hi,I was told to use bowl wax on the takedown sleeve but that seems thick and makes it hard to pull apart.I was wondering if string wax would work?Any suggestions? Thanks

If you're talking about the johnny ring wax, I've used it for the sleeves and it works well. Just rub it on the male side of the TD. I also use it for creaks between the riser and limbs on a 3 piece TD. Works as a waterproofer for leather boots too!!

TL -- if you're talking about the steel/brass inserts that you can buy for bowmaking, and which some bowyers use, try polishing inside steel and outside brass to get it smooth and clean, and forget the wax, which creates extra friction when you try to separate the two sides. When strunk, the bow tension holds the sleeves together; no extra grip is needed.

One other reason to avoid wax on a sleeve, the wax will pick up grit and dirt and potentially lock the sleeve together TIGHT (like irretrievably tight. Dont ask me how I know this little gem of information.)
Sneakypete has it right. Polish the sleeves to where they work freely and dont worry about wax.
