Wisconsin BEAR Help
« on: February 08, 2009, 10:00:00 PM »
After 9 years I drew a bear tag. Zone A

Never hunted bear and have no place to go.
Can anybody give me suggestions of maybe contact person or any bear hints?

I drew a tag 1999 and after accepting it I was told I needed neck surgery. Waisted that tag after 7 years of applying. I do not want That to happen now.

Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Tim

There are some great areas in Chequamegon National Forest.  Take a look in the SW part of Ashland WI. If you do go that route let me know and I'll get you more info.  There's lots of hound hunters on public land, not sure if that's what you're in to but if you want to put in the legwork you can have hundreds of acres to yourself.

How about last year 20 to 22, which wasn't a great year for him?  The three years before that he has 100%.  Best year was 28 for 28 in 5 days.  The other two years he was around 25 for 25.  Last year a woman got one 444 and the following weekend her husband came up and got one 580.  The 444 was actually 6 inches longer than the 580.

Knows trad archery because I've been hunting with him 12 - 15 years.  I'll be up there this year and will draw next.

I also drew a tag for Zone A.  I will be in the Saxon area.  I am sure, I will be crossing paths with Up North.  If I don't transfer my tag to my 13yr old son. I will be using my longbow.

You can also contact the WI Bearhunters Asso, at times there are dog owners looking for people with tags.

OHHH the memories. I got lost in that national forest. Walked over 12 miles ( 16 hours of nail bitting hell) until We stumbled upon a guy baiting bear, and he drove us back, tired and exhausted!! There was ALOT of bear sign, which had us all the more worried! Great place to start! Might I suggest to NEVER go out without being prepared for anything. That liitle adventure started when we got turned around 50 yards from the camper! I learned a VALUABLE lesson that day!
