It is public land and right now, for the month of February, shotgun hunters are allowed as well. The rest of the time it's archery only.
We had good intelligence from another bowhunter as to where to go. So we followed his intructions to the letter. Turns out our friend is part mountain goat.
We got in to some great pig sign...even smelled the bugga's a couple of times...but no luck. I have some pictures of the area I'll post later, but if you've seen the Tejon hunt thread and those pictures you have the lay of the land. If it ain't down, it's up.
We got back to the truck with new insights for the next hunt (don't hike further than you have to and set up on the wallows when you find them).
Now, this trip was not a waste of time at all. It's better being out there hunting than sitting at home wondering. On the way home we stopped at a local watering hole in the area and met some new friends. We ended up trading them coyote hunting on land Juan has access to that has a coyote problem for hog hunting on land with a hog problem that they have access to. It's all good.
