Absolutely! Respect for the animal is the be all and end all. Inches dont matter a thing, its incidental.

How many of us would pass up a big 8-point and shoot the little forkhorn he's with instead?

I scout every year for big deer sign, and plan my hunts around what I think he's doing when I find him. It increases my enjoyment of the sport, and the challenge of hunting a particular deer requires more skill and restraint than just waiting for the first thing that comes along. I only develop the necessary restraint after getting something to eat, though.

I have two hunting objectives beyond satisfying the innate desire to hunt that puts me in the woods: meat in the freezer first, and a big rack second. I almost never pass up the chance for the first, and almost never succeed in the second, but the possibility increases my enjoyment nonetheless.

I'm eating doe again- no complaints.
