Well I went and done it.
« on: February 25, 2009, 11:35:00 PM »
After 9 years of working night shift at the juvenile justice group home where I work as a counselor here in KY, got a promotion and moved to day shift. The local 4-H Archery club has jumped from 30 shooters last year to over 60 signed up this year, with about 10 trad shooters. They had been after me for 2 years to help them during weekly practice, but I was always working. I signed all the volunteer paperwork the other day, getting started the end of March. I will be helping tune all their bows, coach and mentor them, especially the trad. kids since onl 2-3 of us in the county shoot trad. Some of the kids dont have fathers in the picture, hope that this kind of activity will help keep some of them out of trouble. Drugs are a big problem along with lack of parenting in our area, all the youth I work with at the group home are drug addicts ages 13-19, and statistically, activities like this help keep kids of drugs and in school, give them a chance of being more successful.

I used to run a proshop/guns/gunsmithing shop for years, sold out after getting burned out dealing with the public so I have the equipement, history. I dont have a lot of spare time, but think this will pay off in the long run as there is a real need in the community, you guys keep me in your prayers, I aint as young and my patience aint what it used to be.

Congratulations Koger!

I'll tell you this, a few years ago I helped start an archery club at the Christian school my son was going to. Some of the kids had wheelie bows but the longbows were always the hit of the day. Given half a chance you'll have all of them lookin your way when the shooting starts. Their little minds just can't understand how that arrow goes where you point it all the time when you don't have any sights.
If you're gonna be stupid, ya gotta be tough.

Drugs and lack of parenting is a problem no matter where you go!  My hat is off to you for your effort.  I believe it will mean more to the kids than you will ever know.

You'll be fine.  We were all kids at one point.  Some had it better than others.  The lucky ones have people like you.  The world is better off because of you.  You are a good man.

Good job.  Enjoy the experience.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

Top notch sir!  One day some of them will be telling their kids and grandkids about the fellow who helped them get stared in archery.
