Red dacron bow strings!
« on: February 27, 2009, 09:12:00 AM »
I love to build strings with red dacron, but the color bleeds all over the bow at the tips.  Anyone found a way around this?  I was thinking of trying to soak the ends in acetone or something, but haven't attempted it yet.
Thanks, Marty

Soaking the loops in lacquer thinner will solve the bleeding problem....of course I hope you like PINK end loops on your strings   :D

Marty,

The red is horrible for bleeding.  I won't have it in the box.

I don't have a solution, but I agree on the red strings.  My favorit is a red/green combo.  Really looks sharp whith those two colors.  And red/yellow really pops!

Last time I bought string I got white, but I'm scared to use it with my red -- figured I would wind up with pink when it started bleeding.

The only other thing I have found is that as the string material gets older, it bleeds less.

Red and blue looks good also.

For dacron I like black, brown and white, red looks good but it bleeds.Have you tried some endless loop red dacron,it will stop the bleeding.Kustom King has some two color dacron string, red&black and yellow&black, looks pretty good in an endless loop.

Marty, I would try taking a white rag and try to wipe alot of the color out with some pressure before building the loops. I'm not a fan of using any solevents on a sting material. You might give BCY or Brownell a call before doing something like this.

Like Bjorn said. Die the tips of your bow red and no more problem.

Marty,

Quit using Dacron and the problem is solved!!!!  Have you tried the newer materials on your Longbows??  If not I will send one your way.  63" actual Mountain Berry and Black Sound about right?????

I've been building a few D-97 strings, but still mostly prefer dacron.  I'm not completely sold yet.

Brian, Mountain Berry sounds like something my wife burns in those little pots.  You got any deer pellet brown?  How about cedar red?  I'd even like seasoned osage!  Just ribbing you buddy.  I do appreciate the offer.

I talked to Brownell on this one.  They told me to just wipe the loops well with a cotton cloth.

If you make your strings endless the problem will go away.

I much prefer two and three bundle flemish.  Looks much prettier in my opinion, and easier to make.
