to much snakeskin?????
« on: March 02, 2009, 02:44:00 PM »
i ordered a rer cxr last week, (grey durawood w/ black glass limbs) and am thinking how i can "dress it up". i plan on skinning the limbs with either a real skin, or the vinal wrap.
and i really like the thunderhorn quivers with the snakeskin insert.
my question is do you think that would be to much skin? and what kind would look good? i dont know my snakes..       anybody else have a similar combo i can look at??

Oh yeah...I think it will look fine with the limbs skinned with the quiver. I'd want it all to be the same kind of skin though...

With the gray action wood, I would go with canebreaks, or diamondbacks. The black glass should make the pattern stand out. Black leather quiver with the same skin accents. Then get Guru to "snake" a dozen arrows for ya...  :D  No such thing as too much. LOL. Of course Cottonmouth skins are cool, and subtle.

Snake are awesome creatures, and one of the most attractive skins IMO. My uncle(who was really my Dad's best friend) used to have HUNDREDS. I remember walking into his house and the rattlers just going nuts....He was one of  a few people in NYS lisenced for poisonous snakes. When he died, the majority of what he had went to various reptile institutions through out the NE.

The glass will be covered, but real snakeskin is thin enough to see through, to an extent. Canebreaks are the triangular or arrowhead shaped pattern, diamondbacks look like a row of diamonds. Cottonmouths resemble a much darker, blackish copperhead pattern.
I was thinking a bullsnake would also "pop" with that....there are so many choices...LOL. I wont describe that one...  :D
Try checking the sponsors, they might have pics.

D'Oh! Too dark for pics now, but tomorrow I'll post up a few pics of my skinned Shrewesque with matching skinned quiver. It's very pretty!  :D

I've seen a lot of pics of snake skin over black glass and the black realy brings out the detail.

I don't think I'd go with vinal though.

In many states Rattlesnakes and many other kind of snakes are protected spieces. It's illegal to kill or buy skins.
