8125 or 450+ 6 strand string?
«

I picked up a 61# longbow that came with a 6 strand 450+ endless loop string. The bow is very fast with the 6 strand endless loop 450+.
I wanted to try a 8125 endless loop 6 strand string on the bow. The 450+ is rated at 155 lbs tensile strength, while the 8125 is rated at 100 lbs. A 6 strand 8125 would have a 600 lbs tensile strength. I had read that the loops cause the string to lose 40% of the strength of the string. That would bring the tensile strength down to 360 lbs tensile strength. That would still make the string around 6 times the strength of the bow draw weight.
Has anyone tried a 8125 6 strand on a bow around 60#? Am I trying to live too dangerously trying this?
Thanks
Gil

I have been making and playing with some 6 strand 450+ flemish for a couple of my bows padded with an extra 8 strands of dacron in the loop ends.I've been shooting them in a 60# and 65# bows, been holding up great. But haven't work much with 8125,but maybe an 8-10 strand 8125 for 61# I would think may work better being that it is a thinner diameter.I think that is what comes with a Super Shrew is a 6 strand 450+.

I have been shooting 10 strand 8125 paded loop flemish strings on my 60# bows and they are fine. I thought that the 8125 was supposed to be the fastest that BCY had, so I thought I would try them in 6 strand due to the speed of these 6 strand 450+ strings.
I think I am going to stick with the 6 strands of 450+. I was supplied with two 6 strand 450+ strings with the bow. One was a flemish string and the other was an endless loop string. The endless loop string shot 6 fps faster than the flemish string. The bow was an ACS and is quiet no matter which string I use on it.
Thanks

i shoot a 6 strand 8125 fl. tw. on my acs which is 48#. i think you would be safer with 8 strands for 61#. i have never had one break but i do think once you get over 55 or 60 #s its good to have a bit more. too many variables no matter what the numbers say!

Gil: See longbnowjim's post re an 8-strand 8125. For with it's worth, a six strand continuoous loop string, which means three strands around the nock, on a 60# bow is playing with fire, IMO.

I'm with Orion. Go with the old standards when it comes to string strands. I'd go with a min. of 12.

The 6 strand strings are padded with 14 strands of dacron but I don't know if that would realy add to the strength at the nock. I think I will pass on this idea.
Thanks for the input.

I shoot an 8 stand 8125 string on my 55# ACS. If I was shooting 60# I think I would go with a 10 strand. Steve

Orion's right. Read that post from longbowjim before you decide, but based on his post a man could lose an eye with those thin strings and he's damn lucky he didn't get hurt.

Gil,
Check out the string on the TS+ string that broke. A skinny string may not be in your best interests.
