High nock pt for three under?

Is it "normal" to have a high nock pt when shooting 3 under?
Before I adjusted mine, at 3/8 the arrow was smacking the shelf and I was getting up and down movement in the arrow flight.

If you are shooting off the shelf, yep. Mine is high too.

3/4" seems to be the starting place for most bows I have shooting 3 under. Some like 5/8 and others like 1".  You just need to move the nock and see what is going to work best.

I don't doubt for a minute all the above but mine is usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch high. Just have to find the sweet spot for the arrow yo will be shooting.

If your bow is actually tillered for 3 under it will be about the same as normal, otherwise higher as stated above.

I have found on split finger tillered bows, the longer they the bow the less they seem to care.  I had one 68 inch longbow that I could switch back and forth with the same nock point, arrows flew like darts regardless.

My bow was tillered for split....and I did not have to change my nock point when I went to three under.

I think it may make a difference which finger you anchor with.  I personally anchor with my pointer finger in the corner of my mouth.

However...if you use your index finger...thus raising the arrow a little bit more...you just might have to raise the nock point a tad.

5/8" seems to work well for me. And Bill I was just thinking the same thing about the pointer/index finger!

SloBow has nailed it, tillered with a positive tiller for split will usually require a slightly higher nock point when switching to three under.

Be very careful which finger you point with, especially if you happen to be pointing up!    

My longbow doesn't seem to care, but my 60" recurve likes the nock point about 1/4" higher. My 52" recurve doesn't like 3 under with any nock point, but then short bows tend to be a bit more finicky.

I anchor with my middle finger at the corner of my mouth whether shooting 3 under or split. I don't know why that works, but it seems to for me. I usually shoot split because it's quieter and I just feel like I have more control and can nock and shoot quicker. Three under may be a bit more forgiving of a faulty release though.

Not to be argumentative.....but I know at least one of the Wensel boys uses 3 under....and I doubt he has a "faulty" release.

It is also my understanding...that three under was the method of the Apache Indians...(or possibly Navajo).  I'm part Cherokee...so I guess I come by it (3 under) naturally.   :D  

30...I shoot longbows....so maybe that is why they don't care...as you say.

Every person and every bow is different. I noticed no difference in sound....etc.

The only difference I noticed was....the arrows were going where I was looking.
