taper jig

I made a jig for the 10" taper for wood arrows with the angle and sandpaper like Rod describes.
I have been using it for a couple years. Those of you who use files instead of sandpaper, what kind do you use? Do they fill up with sawdust? How often do you have to clean them. Thanks for any info.

I've been working on one too. Saw one guy had cut a slot for dust in the base that seemed like a good idea. I've also considered just c - clamping my file on so i could take it off and clean it?? Just thoughts...

My files are held on with c-clamps.  I had problems using the sandpaper for some reason.  I've only done a dozen with the files, but it seemed to work well for that.

I watched an arrow maker make that taper by rolling the last 10" of the shaft on a belt type sander.  Took only seconds and was sanded the right way when finished.  practice on some dowels from the hardware store, works great!!
