String makers...couple of questions!
« on: March 09, 2009, 12:56:00 AM »
I learned how to make a Flemish string this weekend (thanks JD) and I'm going to order the jig and tool tonight and start making some later this week.

I may try making strings for people later down the road after I’ve become good at it…going to send some out to people that want to try a string from a new maker.

Anyway I have some B-50 to practice with (again thanks JD) and will place an order for Fast Flight when I get our tax return this month.  So with that all said what material should I go with?

I like my D-97 string that is on my Kota, but would have to order from them I believe.

I now have two TS-Plus strings that go to my KajikaStik and they are also very nice, I believe JD is going to go with D-97 next time he orders string material.  I can get this from sponsors on this website.

What serving material should I go with?

So many questions???

Thanks,

Josh

Buy 2 spools of either DF97 or 8125 and a spool of .030 Halo Serving.  For under the cost of buying 10 strings, you will have enough to build LOTS of strings.

I've heard great things about DF97 but not much on 8125...I really want to make stings on the side to help with monthly expenses (if possible).

Ultimately I like making my own stuff and making strings would be great…plus it would be great to learn and unwind when I get out of work late at night.

CC…love the deer mount in the avatar, what did he score?

I really like Dynaflight 97, and .030  Diamondback serving.

Thanks Jwilliams...I just ordered the jig and a few other things needed to make the strings from 3R last night, should have them soon.

I looked on BCY's site and will order four colors of DN97 in a couple of weeks plus some other types of serving material.

May order some others down the road 450+ or TS-1.

Any others out there please let me know what you use.

Josh,

MOST guys are more familiar with DF97 and because of that would prefer to buy strings made with it.  I would go that route if I was you. Get some .030 Halo, .030 Diamond Back, and maybe a smaller diameter halo to use for double serving strings for guys that use Wide throat nocks (Wood Arrow Users) to get good nock fit with a skinny string.  Don't forget string builders wax!!!  If you get hung up on anything and need some one to talk you through any part of the process, feel free to call me.  780-887-7620
