Any bugs yet--Central IL ????????????
« on: March 13, 2009, 11:55:00 AM »
:campfire:

Il members I can use your help!!!!!! I'm going down to the Jacksonville area (about 30 miles west of Springfield) to check on a possible farm to hunt this fall season.
I need to know if the ticks, giggers, no-see ums and skeeters are out yet. It's about a 4 hour drive south from me and I think the temp is warmer. I'm hoping that the bugs are not out yet and the woods are still open.
Thanks for the heads up to everyone who replies.

Ray,

I live about 60 miles North of there near Peoria, and my dog has picked up two ticks on our "woods walks" this week, so they are starting to come out.  As for insects- no skeeeters so far, just a couple Asian beetles and a few houseflies waking up.

For now, I think a little Permanone on your cuffs and cap would keep you safe!

Good luck with the scouting!

Was just down that way scouting last weekend.  Bugs were not an issue, and the woods are still open.  Have a good time! Keep your eyes peeled for sheds.  They have pretty much all shed now.

There have been lots of threads on here lately about ticks in IL already.  One fellow is even on treatments for Lymes disease already.  Yes the Ticks are already active.

I was out scouting in clinton and shelbyville last few days and had no problems with bugs or ticks yet, you should be fine.

well the tick are out in Missouri I picked up 2 last week and Dave (a shooting bud) picked up one just west of St. Louis
I try not to let my mind wander...It is too small and fragile to be out by itself.
