help me pick a shrew.
« on: March 13, 2009, 08:02:00 PM »
i just recently quit the tabacy and said if i am clean a year then i can get a new bow,  well i have a 58 samurai at 58. i like it so much that i would like another shrew with a bow bolt.  seeing as how i need a year i figured i would order now and if i have a dip in the next year some lucky tradganger will get to buy a new unshot shrew but if im good i keep it.
any way i really like the ss so im thinking i would like a gold. wondering if anyone could show some pics and list the various options included, wood types and what not. but i think im set on the gold, you may try and persuade me otherwise as well,  im going to give it about 20 hrs then place a order.

I have a Gold Shrew, but I had Gregg use black phenolic instead of the walnut.

It can be seen in the link posted above by TradTusker.

i wonder if he can do that with just a little less phenolic,  im thinking antler overlays.  ive been to that thread a few times, and was wondering about some of the combos.

I don't have a Shrew-yet. But I did quit smoking 28 years, six months, and 14 days ago..........never think about it! LOL!
Best decision I ever made.

Quit clean and get the bow! Tamo ash and antler tips!

i asked ron if i could get them to use some dall sheep horn on the riser and the tips, if i provide it,  he said that they would.  i really do like the contrast with the black and osage. i wonder if he has black leather for the riser.

oh geez scratch the sheep i just thought about some whale balleen, i know jack harrison uses it for limb backing, wonder if greg would do some riser overlays and tips.  its some tough stuff...... would look cool with osage.

Gregg has black leather for the grip, and I am sure he could put whale balleen on the tips and riser if you provide it. I have several Shrews, including the right-handed twin of Eric Westbrook's bow as a result of Gregg missing the weight on Eric's bow and realizing it before having to make the bow left-handed. I even got it at a point where Gregg could add a Bow Bolt. A Shrew Gold is a beautiful bow. I like the black phenolic with the golden osage in the riser and refer to that combination as a Bumblebee Shrew, for obvious reasons. There are many beautiful combinations, and I have a few of them. One of my favorites is a dark bow that has a Texas ebony and black phenolic riser with macasser ebony limb veneers. It and the Bumblebee are my two most striking Shrews, but I am working on ideas for the two I have on order.

The sheep horn would look mighty fine. The Baleen sound very exotic and would be one of a kind.

I really like the antler overlays on the riser and tips of my Samurai.

My Centaur had sheep horn on the tips and riser and looked real sharp. It went especially well with black colors. The bow had a Gaboon Ebony riser

Good luck staying off the backey Jason! I am rooting for you on this one.
Maybe I can quit before I come up there so I won't be a bad influence.

61 days and counting till Cordova!!!
