I believe the Bear Black Bear compound riser is a popular choice for warfing.

The Black Bears have a nice radius on the shelf.

The Trad talk forum is the place to talk Warfing bows.

As mentioned, the Bear Black Bear makes a nice bow.  It's also pretty easy to find.  The Proline typhoon is another one.  Look up Bob Gordan over on Tradtalk.  He can fill you in on what risers will work well.

I'll be honest here.

I had a Black Bear Warfed with a set of Quinn limbs.  I had it made 50#'s @ 29 inches on a 62 inch bow.

It was the absolute noisiest thing I ever shot.  It literally sounded like an old compound bow when I shot it.  It stacked HORRIBLY at my 29 inch draw.  To the bowyers credit, he took it back and refunded my money fully.

I don't understand the hype.

What you had was not a Warf. Some would call it a Quarf.A Warf would be fitted to use ILF limbs.

You must have used short limbs because I think the BB is a 21" riser. With the right limbs or even maby the adjustable preload made possible with ILF limbs, you would have had a much different bow.

Sorry you had such a bad experience with it but I've had a couple that were fine bows.

I had one with a set of short KAP carbon ILF limbs.  It was as quiet as any bow I've ever owned and a smooth as I could want at 29".  Not all limbs are created equal.  Keep that in mind.

I have a warf and a Quarf, both are great bows. The warf I have is a black bear compound riser, Hoyt Sky Jack carbon limbs, #38, but on this riser about #43.Smooth, fast, long brace height so very forgiving, with a magnetic flipper rest and a plunger, one of the quietest most accurate bows I have ever shot. IF you really dont want ILF limbs, I would just buy a Quinn, I have 3, a buddy has 2. They are super smooth, dont stack quiet, and lightweight alum. handle. And a new quinn stallion is around$300, great people to do business with to boot. The quinns have sight/quiver holes, stab. hole, and plunger hole for flipper rest/plunger set up.

Hoyt also has a new ILF riser out 21" length for $150.It's not a Warf but I thought I would mention it because it's about as inexpensive as any Warf. With a set of Sebastion Flute Foam Glass limbs you would be out about $250 before tax and shipping for an ILF tack driver.

Otto: The use of ILF limbs is what makes the WARFS so good. Bob Gordon out in Washington has done over 700 risers as i understand it. He is a regular contributer over on the tradtalk site and that is where I would go to try to contact him.

I have owned both Warf and Quarf bows made from Black Bear and Hoyt risers.  I really prefer the Hoyt riser over the Black Bear.  Here is a picture of my current one, with a new set of limbsations from Onestringer I just put on.

I just picked up a lefty black bear with Hoyt Gamemaster's limbs from Scott Gray today.  I previously had a Quarf by Bob Gordon.

Looking forward to trying it out this week if the dern wind will ever give it a rest here in Central AR.
