220 grain screw in combos, which would be tougher.
« on: March 16, 2009, 08:29:00 PM »
ive settled on 220gr.  i was wondering what your opinion on structural integrity,  a 145 stos or eclipse with a 75 adapter or a 125 with the 100 adapter. hmmmm  i have a handfull of each type just not the adapters.

I shoot 200gr. heads. I use the long 11/32 alum. adaptors with 160 gr. heads, works great.

Due to some of Ashby's research as well as others on tradgang, the 75 grain adapters would not be my first choice.  I suggest the 100 or 125.
I usually shoot 190 Grizzly with either 100 or 125 gr. adapters totalling 290ish and 315ish grains.

havnt looked at the phantoms, prolly should, i just like the stos and eclipse,  the options are 75gr adapters 145 head or 100 adapter and 125 head. i know the three rivers 75 is iffy but others are good, im sure a good 75 steel is better than a long alluminum.

I respectfully dissagree on the short 75gr. i've seen short adaptors ,not being in the BH to the tip, act like a wedge and split the BH wide open on a hard hit.

100gr brass inserts and 125gr Phantoms or just use the 220gr Phantoms.  Normal carbon inserts will weigh around 15-17grns.
They'll be no quitters till we bag us some critters!

davey thats the kinda answer i was looking for. are you saying that a long aluminum would be a better choice?  i would think the weakest point would be right behind the broadhead where the threads end, but the 100 and 125 probably would be the best of both,
mr land i already have the 100 brass in and have 220 infront of that.

jr, I think the long adaptor alum. or steel would be a better choice. The alum. is how I choose to get 200 gr. simply because I like the tougher 160 gr. heads. Might be a weak link at back of head, but I haven't seen it yet.

The long aluminums have done the same thing on some of my Eskimos. In fact there's one mint one left. They don't go in far but they do push in.
