Stringer for Longbow
« on: March 18, 2009, 01:35:00 PM »
Well, after my shoulder surgery, it appears that there is not yet enough strength and stability to string the buffalobillpatrick hybrid that I've got.  And, after seeing what can happen to a fellow's eye when a bow slips while using the push-pull method, I need to know what type, and where I can get it at, of bow stringer works well on longbows and hybrids, especially those with small limb tips.  See pics.

Get a pocket style by Selway, lots of places have them and they are most likely the best.

That is a pretty small tip. I had to make one to get it perfect.

I like the Skookum. You can purchase one at Alaskan Bowhunting Supply. You can roll it up and it stays rolled with a velcro strip which is great to prevent tangling with itself or equipment. It even has it's own pouch for an allen wrench. $15.

Check out the Thunderhorn bowstringer as well before you buy one.I like the selway but prefer the Thunderhorn over it.The leather cup that the lower limb tip fits into is super strong and holds very securely. The Thunderhorn will work excellant with recurves as well.

Just got it out in the mail about 20 minutes ago...you should have it by Monday I would think.

Let me know if you have any questions since I couldn't find the paperwork, don't worry they're not hard to use.

Thanks Oliverstacy.  I've always used stringers on recurves, but I've never used one on a longbow or hybrid.  Thanks for all your help.
