Grizzly stick sitkas hitting left
« on: March 22, 2009, 01:02:00 AM »
Well I'm about ready to pull my hair out, I'm going to Africa in a month and I'd like to use Grizzly sticks.  I've been trying some Sitkas and they hit to the left about 6-8" at 10 yards.  I'm using a A@H ACS 53#@28 by the way.

I've started the shafts at 30" which I admit is a bit long, but I figure better to start over long than over short. Being a bit long they should be to weak and shoot to the right.

The fletched and bareshafts group together at 10 yards but at 15 yards they stretch out a bit and the bareshafts are hitting to the right of the group.  But the whole group is out about 12" to the left (at 15 yards) indicating too weak. So the bareshafts are indicating too stif if they are hitting to the right of the group...I've gone from 125 to 250 to 375 grains and they all shoot similarily.  I've shot with very little shelf padding and even built the shelf out nothing really seems to make much of a difference.  I can shoot a 300 or 400 spine carbon arrows in a 3" group all day long but these Sitkas have me buffaloed....any suggestions would help.

Have you worked with the stiff side of these arrows. Are you aware that they have a stiff side of the arrow and it is critical to align them all the same in relationship to the shelf? I can't remember for sure but I think the the stiff side should be 90deg to the shelf, or if your looking down the arrow the 9o'clock position.- Steve

If you are RH, a bare shaft hitting to the right of the fletched is weak.

I aint no pro but I am with WESTBROOK if you are right handed.  O.L. says if you make a change and it does not make much difference you probably went the wrong way such as point weight.  I'd check a hundred grain tip and if it gets better start cutting a little off the arrow.  If not better check with the pro.

Tracy, if you have another arrow set that works great i suggest to stick with it AN USE A 2 BLADE HEAD, an put the griz sticks a side. Your leaving in a month for Africa you dont need any distraction prior to ur hunt. Right now you should be fine tuning ur shooting not getting aggravated with a bad set up, Trust me when you get there your going to have a lot pressure on you with a PH looking over ur shoulder,an you dont need this distraction now. I tried grizs in my bows for the same trip, they just don`t work for me in my bows, i shot carbon exspresses instead. You dont need a special arrow for Africa in less ur hunting the big stuff. Most important is being ready when you get there, every arrow you shoot has $$$$ attached to it so you better put it at the right spot .Thats what counts...GOOD LUCK

Yep, if I was going to Africa VERY soon, those Grizzly Sticks would be so far gone so quick it would not be funny.  I'd stick with what works.

I tried the GS one time; I don't think they live up to all the hype.  They were STIFF, much stiffer than advertised in my opinion.

I'm with Westbrook as well.  I'm right handed, and everytime my arrows do what your's are doing they're too weak.
