Jeffries Raven
« on: March 27, 2009, 01:19:00 PM »
I am thinking about making a trade for a Jeffries Raven, but I am looking for more info on the bow in general. I can't find to much about it on the internet, but I don't know where to look. If you have one, had one I would like to hear about them, and if you have any I would like to see some pictures.

Thank you,
Chester

Owen Jeffery is a contemporary of Fred Bear & Tom Jennings.  I believe that he was a boyer for one or both of them at some time.  I don't know if he is still with us. If he is, he is well into his 90's.  His shop is in Columbia SC.

I have a Jeffery Royal Hunter and it is a great bow.  You won't go wrong with one of his bows.

On the website (I am not sure how dated it is) said that he was 83 and still kicking.

Chester,  I have a 1991 Raven.  It has a hard to read decal on the belly of the lower limb that says: "PSE Heritage Series Raven by Jeffery."  It has limbs that have  "pro 730  60#" written on the side of each limb.  The bow is 62" long and draws 60#@28.  It is a good shooter but I don't shoot it to much as I'm more of a longbow guy.  I have wool ball silencers on the endless loop stringand a 8&3/8ths brace height. Don't know what else I can tell you.  Sorry but a picture is beyond my tech capablity.  I don't think you'd be unhappy if your bow is like mine.

It's basically the same bow as the Royal TD, just made for PSE.   Owen still shoots the bow and is an excellent shooter.  He worked for several companys before opening his own business.
One of those companies was Bear Archery and he was in on the design of the Super Kodiak and takedowns.

Here is a link to an interview by Frank Addington Jr. with Dick Mauch.

In it, Mr Mauch mentions that Mr Jeffery was Earl Hoyt's bowyer at one time.

Pretty good credentials.  :)

This was PSE's first entry into the traditional bow business,IIRC. I bought mine brand new in 1990-91 and then ordered an extra set of limbs for it. I use mine as my only turkey hunting bow and carry it each year to CO as a backup bow for my custom takedown I use. It is not fastflite compatiable although Dan Quillen had Jeffrey make a line for him that had the beefed-up tip overlays for the fastflite the next year. It had a funky purple finish to it but was almost identical to the PSE Raven and the Jeffrey Royal Hunter. To my knowledge the only length offered in the PSE Raven line was 62" and both sets of my limbs are 60#@28inches although lesser poundage limbs were available when I ordered the second set.
