stump shooting arrows

Went out today before it started raining yet again and had a blast. I did have a bit of a problem with my arrows. They are woodies with judo points I made a couple years ago for use with my 35lb Howatt Hunter. However I took out my 55lb Martin Hatfield.

The arrows worked OK for close ranges, striking a few inches to the right, but when I tried to make shots over about 15 yards the arrows would sail off high and to the right. (I shoot from the left side.) Was quite interesting watching it sail off path on a 50 yard or so shot. I know they are way too weak so with that in mind I'm going to have to make some more.

I will probably use wood again but I'm thinking about trying some carbon shafts since I've never used them before.

Are carbon shafts good for stump shooting or are they too fragile to stand up to the impacts?  I rarely loose stumping arrows and would love to not have to worry about them bending but also don't want them to shatter when striking a sold piece of wood.

Carbons, especially quality carbons, are about the best shaft out there for stumping. For the past few years, all I used were carbon shafts for stumping. When I footed them with a short piece of aluminum on both ends, they were bomb proof. All in all, they're the most economical shafts for stumping too, seeing as you'll rarely ever break one...

All I shoot is carbons. foot them with aluminum like bowspirit said (theres several how 2s on here)I'vebeen shooting mine for almost a year now and finely broke 1. I don't care what I hit rail road traks-concrete-rocks- iron bunny don't matter they hold up. Ask Pac. I had to show him.

He isn't lying. Even live white oaks at 10 yards with a 57 pound bow didn't damage Olkskool's arrows. I was so impressed I bought some the next day.  I made the footings and glued them in place two days ago.  

Today they are going on their madien flight in the stumping woods.  I have two for me and two for my son in law to try.  

I'm wearing my snake boots today since you aren't with me to break trail Oldskool.  Going back to the same place we went last week.

Carbons can be very durable.  

As it happens, yesterday I shot a unfooted beman bowhunter head on into a live oak tree with a judo.  Penetrated about 1/2 inch.  Got it back out, flexed the shaft, looked it over carefully, and it was fine.

Pac, I keep telling you Those snakes aren't skeerd of you. Me on the other hand, I can't get near them
