Padding String loops
« on: April 01, 2009, 07:12:00 PM »
I've read quite a bit on here about going to thinner strings. On one of the threads there was mention about building up or padding the string loops. I am new to string tying, and am not sure how to do it.

Would I add an extra bundle or 2 of string and twist them together with the actual string bundles? How long should the padding strnds be?

Or would I make the padding up as a 3rd separate strand and tie it up through the loops as a 3 bundle string?

I would like to try a slightly thinner string, but do not want to damage my tips.

If somwone could explain in a little more detail how to put the loops together I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks
AA

I do mine like you said first. Lay in a few strands of .. whatever.. i use b-50 'cause I have a bunch. Then twist it in. Mine are 11 - 12 inches but i am pretty new to it too.
I think I'm going to try to do your second way. Make the loop look like a three bundle then the string a two.. hmm you never know.
I learned the first way from a guy so that much be the "right" way.

I would add the extra strings to the entire length of the braids (I have also see a guy using wool thread for this purpose). I do not do either this is just what I have read

Autumnarcher, just add b-50 of about 10-12 inches long to your bundles, same colors or not, you preference. If, say your twisting an 8 strand d-97 , maybe add 5 extra pieces of b-50. Cheaper than using extra strands of d-97, and softer.
