Is 15 grains a big deal

Hello Gang,

I have another question for you. Yesterday I talked to Ron at KME and ordered some 190 gr glue on broadheads and he's going to be doing the sharpening of them too. Ron said that the finished weight of the heads will be about 175 grains.

Now I just looked at the 3 Rivers site looking for glue on 175 field points. They only listed 160's and 190's.

My question since there is about a 15 grain diffrence between broadhead and field points, will I see a big diffrence in where one weight hits comaired to the other. And, if there will not be a big diffrence what field point weight would you suggest I use, 160's or 190's and why?

160s because broadheads tend to slightly stiffen a shaft and the 15 grains just may be enough to make them and the field points group.

No 15 grains is not a big enough margin to be concerned with, it's equal to 3 5" feathers in weight. Hold them in your hand & you'll see how insignificant that really is!

 They do make 175 grain field-points I have several of them! A-Boywer sent them to me.

I doubt you'll see a difference with only 15 grains. Weigh each of your arrows individually....I bet you'll see a good difference from arrow to arrow. That being said, I bet they all shoot just fine!

I also use 175 grain field tips, but I agree, unless you are a lot better shot than I am I can't imagine that you would notice a significant difference.  I'm sure it does matter to some extent.  I just have more issues with my release and form to be able to tell.

Vermonster's got it. Also the blades on the broad heads tend to keep an arrow up longer similar to wings on an airplane. So they would tend to hit a little higher and the 160 field points will work better than the 190's which would drop more due to increased weight.

I shoot 190 feild tips and grizzlys at about 175 after sharpening and out to 25 yards i don't see a difference, both group together for me!!

I dont see it mattering much,but I have to disagree with some on the broadhead stiffening an arrow.I would think since the overall arrow is longer w/the broadhead that it would be slightly weaker.

Nontypical, Your point about overall length is good but the Center of mass on many braodheads is more to the rear than the COM on a comparable field tip. (The field tip has most of its weight in the front-many broadheads have more weight  to the rear where theblades are broadest)  Mostly it doesn't make MUCH difference.

Recurve, If you want to get precise just drop two .177 caliber airgun pellets in the ferrule of your 160s and heat it up. You'll still have room for a reasonable taper  and your weight will be 175-176 grains
