Free Youth Shoot
The Wisconsin Traditional Archers (WTA) is hosting a free silhouette shoot for youth ages 1 to 100 at Rib Mnt Bowman’s club May 30th 2009. The purpose of this shoot is to promote traditional archery by giving young archers an opportunity to experience and enjoy our type of archery. Our focus is to introduce youth to traditional archery and plant the seed of our values and interests within them. Anyone else is welcome as well. All WTA members are welcome to attend and are encouraged to bring youth of all ages with them. WTA members are asked to welcome and assist them as needed. We would like to have equipment on hand for anyone that would want to shoot but does not have any. If you have bows, arrows, finger tabs, arm guards and quivers that could be used please bring them for our guests. We would like to provide instruction and perhaps have members accompany the new comers on the course.
So far I have had contact with three Boy Scout troops that are planning on coming. They would like to do archery merit badge. This would cover all of the things we would do with young archers anyway, such as safety, care of equipment, naming the parts of the bow and arrow, shooting form and types of shooting. We can use help in these areas.
We would also like to have demonstrations and displays on the equipment that we make such as string making, arrow making and building self and laminated bows. We have had a couple members step forward to help in these areas but we could certainly use more.
As traditional archers I am sure we all know of people who may be interested and this just might be the chance they need to get started.
All members are encouraged to come on out and help spread the word and passion we have for our sport. Free camping Saturday night is also offered.
Pre registration is requested but not required. This will help us prepare and serve our guests better.
