String Stretch and brace ht.
« on: April 09, 2009, 11:50:00 AM »
I set my brace height, and 24 hrs. later it had decreased by almost half an inch. This string has been on my bow for two years, and has always had this problem.  I haven't shot it alot, but I've left it strung for over six months.  By that time, the bow looked unbraced.  I would've thought that would take all the stretch out of the string, but evidently not.  Do I need a new string?  Suggestions?

Any new string will stretch a little, but that's excessive, for sure. I think I'd just get a new string. When I make a new string, I brace the bow with it, and apply pressure to the tips to get the initial stretch out of it and then leave it strung overnight. That usually takes care of the problem.

I would replace a string that keeps stretching like you described. What type of string is it,a dacron or FF type material? A dacron string will stretch the most but I half to think something is going wrong with that string on your bow.

Get a new string, it shouldn't do that.

Get a new string.  Regardless of the material, it shouldn't stretch that much.  Sounds like the loops are slipping and/or a bad spool of string material.

The only materials I've heard of stretching anywhere near that much aren't sold anymore.
