Need a carbon recipe
« on: April 12, 2009, 06:11:00 PM »
Hey guys I will be getting a second hand Welch Dakota recurve 58@28" non carbon limbs. I draw about 27" so I'll be drawing around 55-56lbs. I have some Arrow Dynamics 29" long with 4 " lw shields with 175grns up front(a screw in point) and was going to try these. Do you guys have any recipes for 35/55's that i can have a compromise between speed and yet still be 8-9-10grns per inch? I am trying to come up with a good all around 3d and hunting shaft so I can practice all summer with the same weight I'll hunt with. Any input would be appreciated.

you didn't say what kinda game yer after, but for anything up to deer, and to be kind to yer bow, i'd stay above 9gpp; 10gpp would be better.  this'll mean a total arra weight of around 500-560 grains.

point up with whatever weight will yield the total arra weight yer after and see how it flies.

i use the same carbon shaft for all my bows that range in holding weights between 40# and 55#, changing the front end weight to adjust total arra weight, gpp and foc. i stay above 9gpp and below 11gpp.

for the 55# longbow, i can adjust point weight to yield a 505 grain arrow for speed at longer distances (i.e. antelope), and a 610 grain arrow for penetration at shorter marks (i.e. hog).
IAM ~ The only government I trust is my .45-70 ... and my 1911.

I would say a CE Heritage 150 cut to 29"s with 175 grains up front would be about perfect. It will weigh right around 500-510 grains with feathers and a wrap, which is a tad over 9gpp. A good compromise with enough weight for penetration and yet still be pretty quick. Start with them at 29.5"s and cut back a half an inch at a time until ya get perfect flight with that 175 up front. Shawn
