Budget friendly longbow

I have been shooting recurves for about 5 years now and was looking to purchase my first longbow. I am currently looking at the Martin L-100 and the Fred Bear Montana. Does any one have experience with either of the bows mentioned? Any input, suggestions, or reconmendations is great appreciated.

I have a Montana.  It's what got me into traditional.  Very nice.  I have really enjoyed it, and still shoot it some even though I've got other bows now.  It's as good a bet as any for the price.

Just picked up my first a longbow, a Samick/Chiron Outlander, and I'm very pleased with it.  Very traditional looking with that D-shape I was looking for, and very little little handshock.  You can find them for under $200 US, I believe.

You might also look at one of 7 lakes longbows blanks.  If you don't mind doing some sanding, you can have a very good bow for under $250.

Pick up a used Martin Savannah. Great shooting bow, and you can probably get your money back if you want.

No experience with the Martin, but that Montana is a very good bow for not much money. I second the poster above who recommended the Savannah. It compares well with just about anything out there, IMO.

Check the classifieds and be patient, something will turn up.

Got 2 Montanas,good bows, I like them alot. The savannah is also a great bow. Check out the classifieds and look for a deal. Mahaskas go pretty cheap as well as a few others. For $300 or less, sometimes much less you can get a real nice longbow that will serve you for years.

You guys are great. Good info and fast. I was looking at rmsgear.com and saw a few Spirit long bows I like. Any info, likes/dislikes of the Spirit longbows? Thanks for all the replies.

Don't forget the classified section on this site. You can buy some really nice bows used and save yourself a lot of money. Just a thought.

martins have a lot of handshock...jmo, and i shoot HH bows so I think I can tell.

I second the Dry Ridge Archery post!  He made me a bow a few months ago.  I is my first traditional bow, and he was able to get me into one for $200.

Well last night I bought a Spirit longbow. Cant wait for it to get here. Next will be figuring out a set up. Thanks for all the help. I came in thinking I was going to go with the Montana, but then came across the Spirit. I hope she is a shooter.
