Ditched the blind-going ghillie on turkeys!

So after adjusting a ghillie suit I got in the mail the other day, I went and shot with it on tonight. I heard the window open and laughter coming from the wife and my 4 yr old daughter! Apparently I looked like a shrubbery shooting a bow. I use a longbow, so I can see that it will take some adjustments, but not much. I think I have it trimmed to work well. I have decided that dealing with a blind is just a royal pain and I don't get the same pleasure as just sitting in the woods. I feel like I am in a hole. I think sitting on logs will work well and a ton less to carry. I am hoping the turkeys don't take note! I will post pics Friday when I get my bow back with fresh diamondback skins to complete the camo project! Any tips as to how to arrange the jute style ghillies so that they look really inconspicious?

I used to use old army camo and the old army olive green wool sweaters for turkey. I have had them within a foot. If you don't move they aren't to camo scary, even with a Ghillie the trick is to draw your bow with out getting caught. Line your longbow up so you can pull the string with the least amount of movement, straight back. Practice shooting that way off a stool and find out your kill range. I like to set up with a few large trees around so you can get your bow into position when they go behind them. Sometimes they will give you a second to shoot.

i much prefer to chase birds without the blind.  so much fun.

Thats how I've been doing it.  Don't need a blind with a ghillie.
