Story and nontraditional knives

This happened about 3-4 years ago but the passing of an old customer and gentleman brought back memories. A few years ago a customer of mine came to my store and while talking to him ,he asked if I knew a certain person.I told him that I had heard of him but did not know him.He said you know he makes knives and would I like him to make me one.I said yes but would rather him make me two for my two sons-in-law thinking I would be buying them.He said you cannot buy them but I will ask him.A few days later he showed up again and said to pick a style and send pictures so I did and sent two sheds 4 point each for handles. This is what I received

Now like Paul Harvey the rest of the story. The man that made these knives was a Thalidomide Baby, for those too young or not familiar in the late fifties early sixties a new drug for pregnant women was given in America and Britain with terrible side effects and babies were born with horrible birth defects. This man was born without arms and does everything with his feet including making knives, all types of hunting, driving his four wheeler and living a normal life.I tried to pay for them but he would only take a nominal fee to replace his grinding disc and supplies. His steel is donated saw blades from a sawmill. He credits God for this art and does not sell them to anyone. Both my son-in-laws bowhunt so this thread should pass and the knives are used in their hunting.I had the sheaths made buy another guy that I knew.He also made me one with a wooden handle.I will never forget this kind man and my old friend. These knive were not handmade but as I stated footmade non traditional.Kip

Think? Lets not get carried away! It does make quite an impression on one, though. Now, what was I snivelling about this morning?
