Archerxp,
I'll explain what I do and you can decide for yourself what is best with your style.
I start with a full length shaft in a spine I feel will work.
Install one arrow with a 50gr and another with a 100 brass insert.
Take 125,150,175,200gr (or heavier) points along to the bales.
I take a pad of paper to write the combinations down and what they do.
At about 10 to 12 yards I shoot both arrows with the same weight point and record the results.
I am looking for an arrow with the nock pointing straight back at me when it is stuck in the bales.
If nock left...too stiff, add weight to the point.
If nock right...too weak, less weight and/or trim the shaft off a little. Low or high nocks are nocking point issues on the string. Note that if you "cant" the bow some of the low/high is the angle you hold the bow showing through. I usually hold as vertical as I can when tuning bare shafts.
It is a bit of a long process but when you are done wet feathers in the rain even with a broadhead still fly good.
FYI: A Blackhawk 2000 28" long with a 100 gr insert and a 200 tip with a cresting wrap and 3-4" feathers weighs 475gr.
That particular arrow flies pretty good out of the draw weight you are, at least for for me it does.
Anyway, you get the idea of the process. Have fun!
Hope I explained it so it is understandable...
Rick
