Idea for stationary ground hunting (deer)?
« on: April 26, 2009, 07:21:00 AM »
http://magnoliaoutdoors.com/Page37.html

I sat on one of these a few weeks ago, and it's comfortable as all get out.  Does anyone know if there's a board sponsor selling Millennium treestands?

I'm gonna brush in a few spots (around a tree) in my hunting area.  Then....just take the seat in with me in the AM/PM.  It'll be a welcome change from hauling in a stand, every time (probably climbed 80 times, last year).

If you know of any drawbacks to this, let me know.  If you know a board sponsor selling them.....let me know.

Thanks.

How quiet would be the big question. I'd like to know too.

I sat on one at our deer classic here a few weeks ago.  There's nothing really about it to make any noise.  It's a fabric type seat with a lifetime wnty.  ONLY thing i can think of that might would be an issue....is the strap on the tree.  I'd hope I could "seat" it good when i set it up, though.

I could always just use the upper portion of my LW sit and climb.....but this seat is WAYYYyyyyy more comfortable.

Summit makes a similar seat.. It's called a Trophy seat, and use to e part of a stand system.
I have one and love it.

Its basically the same top as the viper (drop seat).  I love my viper for long sits....but the millennium is what I'm looking for (for this application).

Thanks, Earl E.

How heavy is it? For $59 that it costs you could make a whole bunch of Torges tree seats. But it does look comfy!

Not familiar with the torges (seat, anyways)....lol.

The whole beauty of this seat is how comfy it is.  It's really nothing special, other than that.  I can see me using it to pre season scout some fields, from the woods edge, also.

Made 12 Torges seats last year out of a single sheet of 5/8" AC plywood and gave them to my buds. Great seat and fun to make and show folks how simple they are to use. Just bought a Gorilla treeseat off *bay for $12 !!! I will try to make myself hunt off the ground more this year and compare the Gorilla to the Torges seat. The Gorilla is more or less the top portion of their hang on stand. It only weighs 3 lbs and has backpack straps on it.

I saw this at the ATA Show this year.  It's a good, very well made  product.  The Torges seats are simple and cheap but don't compare to this one for comfort and strength.  If you have $59 for it, you can't lose?  It will last forever.  Hell, I spent $59 going to Steak and Shake with my wife and 3 kids last week  :)

This seat is larger and more comfortable than the Gorilla Seat.

The downside of this seat v. other chairs and such is you have to have a sturdy tree to use it.

I've sat in those before - a couple problems for them in my mind:

1) way too comfortable.  I'd doze off in an instant sitting in it for any extended length of time.

2) The size of the tree necessary to mount the seat (I prefer smaller trees in thick areas)

3) Taken down, it's nearly the size of a treestand - which for me is awkward to quietly manuever through the forest if I want to still hunt out to my spot.

Personally I use the top of my LW HandClimber.  It's not supercomfortable (keeps me aware), it's very light, and functions like the Torge's Seat, just is more solid on the tree.

Also as I usually have the LW Climber with me in the car, it's easy just to grab the top and go.

Just like using fine wool, a good comfortable seat vs plywood makes for a more enjoyable and longer sit.

I made my Torges seat a couple of seasons ago and like it *but* most of the time I spend sitting in it, I'm scheming about how to improve it.

I bought a SitDrag (  google it if interested or sitdrag dot com  ) at our local deer/turkey show this year - we'll see how that does.
