New sleeping bag and tent, did I do good?
« on: April 26, 2009, 06:30:00 PM »
Joes, formally, "G.I. Joes" here in the Portland OR. Vancouver WA. area is going out of business.  Yesterday I scored a Northface "Cats Meow" bag and a Marmot "Twilight 2P" 2 man 3 season tent. The prices were great.  Hope the quality is. I think I spent about $300 total.

If anyone has any experience with either or both of these products, I'd sure appreciate your in-put.

Thanks, Gene   :help:      :wavey:

Dave this is a 20F bag and "not down" as we get lots of rain here in the Pacific NW.  Feel under these conditions synthetic is probably my best bet.

Bummer to hear Joes is going down.  Not my favorite place to shop, but was always an option if I couldn't find what I needed elsewhere.  Sounds like you got a good deal, BTW.

I have had 2 cat's meows... My original got thin spots in the old insulation, they sent me a brand new bag in exchange for my 7 y.o.o one... I have that one and another right now... I say you done well...

Marmot makes some fine gear, not familiar that tent, but doubt you did bad as my 3 season NF tent cost that much 15 yrs ago... Thats why you buy good once, it'll last ya

Cat's Meow is a great 20deg bag - had one, lost it - need to pick one up again.  Most of mine are down - great for dry/dead of winter outings but miserable in the damp fall.

Don't know about the Marmot tent, but the brand is quality.

Think you spend you're money wisely on good, sturdy gear.

I think you did pretty well. I would get a sleeping bag liner to increase the temperature rating of the sleeping bag. But that is a great value bag.
