String Serving How To???
« on: April 27, 2009, 03:23:00 PM »
I have several strings that need new serving.  Where can I get a good how to?  An article with pic's would be great.
My problem is that most my string serving only last around 100 shots if I am lucky.  I shoot left handed, and if the serving is not put on for a left hand shooter it will unravel very quickly.  Anyone have any pointers?

Are you unravelling on top or bottom? If your not sure about you tie off, put a little super glue over the last inch. I also like to wax over the bottom where you might hit your bow arm. Good shootin, Steve

Paul:  If your servings are only lasting 100 shots, something is wrong.  They should neither unravel nor wear out in that length of time.  As Frank notes, a little glue on either end helps hold everything in place.  Are you pulling the tag ends back through and under a half-inch of serving or so.  The how-tos will show you how to do that.  Good luck.

Servings should wrap the same direction as the twist in your string.

100 shots and worn out?

Something terribly a miss here. Servings last thousands and thousands of shots. Mono and dacron are the weekest servings but still last way longer than 100 shots!  Braided #62,crown, or halo are some of the best,IMHO. I use Crown and this stuff is tough and very slick, perfect for finger shooting.

easy - for a left handed center serving, brace the bow, use clothes pins or paper clips to mark where the center serving goes, sit down with the riser on yer lap, the string up top near yer face, the top limb of the bow must be on yer left.  now serve from left to right, and the serving won't loosen for a left hand archer.

Rob,  Uh?  counterclockwise or clockwise?

If a person serves the same direction as the twist in your string the serving will stay tight. If a person tries the other way the natural twist in the bow sring will fight with the serving and tend to loosen it. At least this is what I have read, it makes sense to me.
