Difference in 3555s same brand
« on: May 12, 2009, 09:13:00 AM »
My buddies old Gold tip 3555 expedition hunters shot great out of my bow so I thought I'd order some.  Got a look at the Gold tip traditional 3555s and new those had to be mine.  Fletched one up and shot it.  Too weak.  put one of each on the spine tester and got 487 for the old one and 534 for the new one.  What gives?  I can't cut any more than 3/4" off the full length shaft.  Are heritage 150s closer to what I'm looking for?

Did you spine test a couple difrent shafts or only one?  Rotate the shaft on the spine tester and see if there is a stiff side.  3/4" of an inch cut off will change the dynamic spine.

A CX Heritage 150 has a spine of .487,an excellent quality arrow.I feel they are alittle more consistent then some GT's.But I like and shoot GT's also.

I tried a couple shafts with the same result.  Tried one of the new ones full length and one with the 3/4" taken off.  Both were weak.
I forgot to mention the expeditions were 3-4 years old.  Don't know if that makes a difference.
I don't think I ought to jump up to the 5577 so heritage 150 are probably it unless some better ideas exist.  I am shooting 60" Griffin longbow 50# @ 28" (I draw 29)  Skinny low stretch string on it.

The gold tip trads are weaker in spine than the plain black gold tips.  I shoot the plain black ones at 30 inches with 175gr up front out of a BW pma 44@28, I draw 29, so about 46-47lbs.  Hope this helps.
