Personal Request
« on: May 16, 2009, 12:16:00 PM »
As some of may have read here on  Trad Gang, I'm currently rehabbing my left shoulder since I had surgery back in February.  I tore two rotator cuff muscles completely loose, and suffer a bicep tendon tear, as well.  The rotator muscles had to be shortened an inch and seven anchors were inserted in my upper arm bone and the muscles reattached.  The torn bicep tendon was also repaired.  Now here's my problem.  My rehab is going real slow,  and my shoulder is not strong enough for me to shoot what I've got.  I've got a 43# hybrid built by buffalobillpatrick, but I can only get it back about half way, or a little more.  My request is, does anubody have a 30 pound, or so, bow that I could borrow so as to allow me to shoot and help my shoulder get stronger?  I promise that I'll always use a stringer, and I'll return it as soon as I can draw the 43# hybrid.  Thanks.

Thanks, but I'm right-handed.  I really appreciate the offer.

D A ,I have a mild d/r longbow that needs to be sanded and sprayed with something for finish. I'll check the #s in a bit.  I'll send it your way if the #s are right. If you want to finish,OK and if not,it'll be next weekend before I get it done!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

how did you injure your shoulder ? I had to have a horse roll over me on a mountain side to break my scapula... what do you have to do to tear two rotator cuff muscles completely loose, and suffer a bicep tendon tear ?

Me thinks my grandkids have my lighter bows; I will check though.

Kenny & Dennis,

I really appreciate the offers.  It doesn't matter whether it's a recurve or longbow.  I just need something to work the muscles used in drawing a bow.  All the damaged muscles are coming along great, but the one(s) used for holding the bow as you draw it, just aren't coming along at the same speed.  Kenny, I'd hate to borrow a bow that's not yet finished, and even worse I'd hate to finish it for you and it not come out to your standards.  If Dennis doesn't mind me using his Stemmler recurve, I'd appreciate the opportunity to use it for rehab purposes.  If you're sure you don't mind me using your Stemmler, if you would ship it to:  D.A. Davis  204 Kitterman St.  Bay, AR 72411.  Let me know how much shipping is and I'll send you a money order for it.  Thanks Dennis, and thanks Kenny.

If you're just getting the muscles rehabbed, get a BowFit.  I have a 50-80# one (Heavy), but the draw weight is adjustable from what seems to be 25# to 55#, plus you'll have something to keep your body in shape and not have to worry about breaking someone else's bow.

I'll second the bowfit. I used on extensively to rehab my shoulder surgery and it works great!

It's healing ok, it's just the strength issue I'm going through.  My physical therapist says that I'm ready to start shooting, if I can find a bow that I can draw.  I need to be able to go through the entire process of drawing, anchoring, and releasing.  Oh, and believe it or not, but I was putting brake pads on my wife's car when my shoulder went out.

D.A. How far did she drive before she realized you were under the car?   :)

I hate injuries that interfere with shooting my bow. My broken scapula was a huge problem that I overcame in 3 months; I had a broken wrist; and shot with the use of a mechanical release ( ! ) ; and I got my ring finger crushed; which might not seem important - but it kept me from holding onto the bow when I shot. I used a strap to keep the bow from hitting the ground after I shot.

I hope you can rebuild the strength for deer season.

 Don't give up  :)
