Lightest & Heaviest 2 Blade Broadhead For 35# Recurve
« on: May 31, 2009, 12:04:00 PM »
I have a 66" long, 35# @ 30" take down recurve bow on order. I plan on using this bow for 3D shoots, general target practice and stump shooting for fun. I shoot aluminum arrows and my arrows are 32" long before the broadhead is attached. I like to bowhunt rabbits and think this bow would be great for that. But, I've also started thinking of bowhunting javelina with this bow. I would like to know what is the lightest and heaviest 2 blade glue on broadheads you would use for hunting javelina? I have 3 dozen 11/32" Zwickey long broadhead adapters that weigh 36 grains per adapter. I started looking at a 100 grain Grizzly and with the 36 grain adapters, this would give me around 136 grains. I've also thought about the 130 grain STOS broadhead and with the 36 grain adapter, I'd be around 166 grains total. Another glue on broadhead I've looked at is the Tusker 125 grain Javelin. What's your opinion? Both pro and con comments would be welcomed and appreciated.

My vote would be the Stos.I have used them a lot from light weight bows and pentration will be no problem with your setup. They are also one of the easiest broadheads to get shaving sharp and can sharpened very well in the feild with a small file.jmo
....Quality deer management means shooting them before they get tough....

All the heads you mention are good.  I lean toward the STOS as well.  Might also consider the Zwickey eskalite (sp) at 115 grains and the Magnus II two-blade at 110 grains.  These are 5/16 glue ons.  Adapter inserts would bring them up to the same weight as the others you're considering.  Good luck.

Magnus makes a 5/16" 85 grain glue on that should be fine for the lighter game your interested in.  The Zwickey 110 grain Eskalite is a great head that I would tackle anything with, but it's also a 5/16".

The Tusker would work well with your 11/32" adapters, and would lose some weight during sharpening, especially if you put a tanto point on the tip, which I would recommend you do.
