Needing some carbon arrow help
« on: May 31, 2009, 05:33:00 PM »
I'm currently shooting an Assenheimer that is 56# @ 28" and I draw 28".  I've always been an aluminum kind of guy but carbon has sparked my interest here as of late with all of the EFOC talk on here.  Here is what I am thinking and chime in with arrow manufacturers and such.  I would like to work towards getting an arrow with 350 up front and I shoot 4 blade Zwickey Eskimos.  After reading all these great posts, I would say that if I went with a carbon express I would on the fence between a 150 and 250.  If it was a gold tip I would be on the border between a 35/55 and 55/75.  Let me know what you folks think.

There's a couple of suppliers that will sell you one or two shafts.. You might want to get a couple of each and bareshaft them to find the correct one.. Leave 'em long and cut them a little at a time to find the right spine.

I don't shoot that kind of FOC but I would have to shoot at least a 250 CX with just 125 grn up front if shooting your bow at my 29" draw.

I expect you need a CX 350 with that much FOC.Start full length and cut as you bareshaft. You might need the 7595 with a GT.I see no way you could shoot a 3555 or a 150 if that bow is even close in performance to anything I've shot.

I shoot a 62# recurve and a 610 gr. arrow with 250 gr. up front.
I use the CX 250's cut 28" & 29" with no noticeable difference.
I use 100gr. brass insers and 150 gr. broadhead.
I think the 350's would be too stiff---I tried them with my set-up cut to 30" and couldn't get any good flight.
With GT's. I can use the 55/75's with same insert/tip set-up.
I think the 250's might work if you're adding another 100gr. more than my set-up, maybe leave them long like PatB said.

Thank you for the responses guys.  I am also looking to be in the 10 - 12 grains per pound range as well.  The Gold Tips get me in the range with 350 up front, but the Carbon Express would give me another 1.5 gpp over the Tips.  I'm not quite sure I'm looking to shoot an arrow in the mid to high 600 grain range.

R H, yep she's a shooter.  My Assenheimer shoots as good today as the day I got it from Donnie back in '95.

Ben, you got me thinking.  If I dropped to 250 up front for the Carbon Express I would be right around that 10 gpp mark as well.  Decisions, decisions.
