Carbons for Beeler LB?
« on: June 08, 2009, 09:56:00 PM »
Hey guys, I am thinkin' about maybe trying carbons with my Beeler longbow I have coming soon. I like CX Heritage arrows. Which ones(150, 250, etc.) would most likely work best from my bow?

Here's the specs: 56" longbow cut to center, D97 FF 12 strand string with silencers. I will be pulling about 52#@27". Would like to shoot arrows between 28 and 30 inches in length. Also, I will use wraps on the end and I like field tips in the 125-145 grain weight range. I also like fairly heavy inserts installed(50-100 gr). Here's a pic of the bow:

Thanks,

Doug

My guess would be the 90s.You might still need a 175gn point depending on the string and your release.jmo

I did not see you wanted heavy inserts. The 50gns should be enough for 125gn points.

So, are the 90s stiffer than the 150s and 250s?

I just got some Beman ICS Bowhunter 500s. Cut to 30 inches BOP with 100 grain brass inserts and 145 grain fieldpoints, they fly like darts from my 52# @ 28" Kanati, both bare shaft and fletched. I draw 28", so our poundage is the same. With this setup they weigh right at 500 grains for a 20.83% FOC.

The added plus is they are cheap!

BTW: 90s would be weaker than 150s. They get stiffer as the numbers go up with CX shafts.

The 90s spine the same as a 2016 aluminum. Most bows at your weight and draw with the length you want your arrows would shoot a 2016 with 175gns well. When choosing carbons I just match spine with aluminums I know will work.  :)  A 29" cx90 with 175gns on the front will weigh about 480 with 3 feathers and around 500 but the time you use wraps.A good weight for your bow without getting too heavy. jmo

Wow! This is great stuff. I have several 2016s that are 28" long with wraps and 5" parabolics that have 87 gr. bullets hotmelted into the end of the shaft behind the insert and I use 125 gr. tips. I think they weigh about 560 grs. total. If these do well out of my bow then it sounds like the CX 90s will be the way to go. Thanks a bunch!
